Hi, Sara here!

My life revolves around two adorable pups, an amazing husband, and the most wonderful friends who support me through every adventure (even the questionable ones). But you’re here for the story behind Little Red Bird, aren’t you? Let me take you back.

Lover of dogs and cozy nights filled with netflix and chill.

Where it all began …

I GREW UP IN A HOUSE FILLED WITH STRONG WOMEN—MY MOM, WHO JUGGLED MULTIPLE JOBS TO KEEP US AFLOAT AND MY GRANDMA, WHO STEPPED IN TO HELP.

Between driving me to dance classes and keeping up with my endless energy, my grandma was a constant source of love and patience.

There was one thing, though, that could slow me down: arts and crafts.

From finger painting to making bracelets, I’ve always found joy in creating. My grandma, or as I called her, “Gram,” introduced me to sewing and quilting at a young age. I’ll never forget the pride of making my first little pillow. From there, she taught me how to use a sewing machine and even shared handy tricks for those “uh-oh” moments when a quick fix is needed.

And then came yarn latching—a craft requiring patience (which I lack in spades) and determination (which my Gram instilled in me).

In Gram’s final days, we worked on a latch hook project together. It was one of those projects that never seemed to get finished. But in those moments, we laughed, reminisced, and created memories I’ll cherish forever.

Just before she passed, I finished that project—a moment filled with bittersweet love. After she was gone, I knew I wanted to carry her legacy forward. Gram taught me the importance of slowing down, embracing life’s simple joys, and creating something meaningful.

Why “Little Red Bird”?

GRAM ADORED HER CARDINALS

Her house was filled with them, and one of her most cherished pieces was a little red bird she kept by her bedside. On my birthday, she gave it to me, saying, “When I’m gone, I want you to have this to remember me.” That bird now sits on my nightstand, a symbol of everything she taught me: strength, love, and the reminder that even something small can be mighty.

And here we are now …

LIKE MANY COVID BRIDES, I SPENT A LOT OF TIME WAITING

and in that time, I discovered a new love: loop yarn projects. What started as simple scarves for my family turned into baby blankets and eventually chunky knit blankets.

One project led to another, and before I knew it, I was bringing joy to others through my creations. Gram’s love of crafting and the legacy of that little red bird continues to inspire me every day.

Now, here I am, sharing that love with you. I hope you find as much joy in these creations as I do. Oh, and before you go—check out a good dog pic. It’s sure to brighten your day!
